IN SUPPORT OF THE NATIVE WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTRE OF TORONTO

BEER FOR EVERYBODY FALL 2022

We are honoured to be supporting the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto as our Beer For Everybody beneficiary from September 29th-November 24th, 2022. The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto honours the vision of their founders as they support urban Indigenous women and children from all walks of life, building self-sufficiency and developing collective capacity to make positive change.

The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto began when a dedicated group of Indigenous women recognized the need for a gathering place in Toronto where Indigenous women could share resources, support one another, and practice their traditional ways. Since 1985, the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto has been providing a safe and welcoming environment for all Indigenous women and their children in the Greater Toronto Area. They offer wrap-around blanket services to address and support Basic Needs, Housing, Families, Advocacy, Employment, Education, Healing from Trauma, and Access to Ceremonies and Traditional Practitioners/ Healers.

100% of profits from all Beer For Everybody merchandise and all donations made at checkout from September 29th to November 24th, 2022 will be donated to the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto. Beer For Everybody’s intention is to showcase and support local organizations that work to dismantle systemic inequities. This initiative is not a single campaign, but rather a statement of our beliefs and a name under which we will continue to take action to uphold our commitments to equity and inclusion. It is our belief that beer can be a powerful tool to build community, to bring people together and to drive positive change.

In a literal sense, we know that beer is not for everybody. Alcohol has historically been used as a colonial tool to control, manipulate and marginalize Indigenous communities, repercussions of which continue to harm Indigenous people to this day. We have chosen to support the Native Women’s Resource Centre through this initiative as an acknowledgement of this truth, and to financially support them in their efforts to provide healing. This article provides context from an Indigenous perspective, as well as links for continued learning.

At Left Field, we believe in a just and equitable society for all. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, heterosexism, cissexism, ableism, ageism and other inequitable systems or forms of oppression – not only between our own four walls but also within our communities. We remain committed to actively upholding these values over the long term.

We acknowledge that the sacred land on which we operate, and those on which many of our ingredients are grown, is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg (Ah-nish-in-nah-beg), the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-oh-sho-nee) and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
